How to Apply Press-On Nails for 7-Day Wear (Step-by-Step Guide)
By Tariq Aziz, founder of Bling Art — designed in Yorkshire since 2014
Most people get 3-4 days from press-on nails. With the right prep and application technique, you can get a full 7 days of wear without lifting, snagging, or chipping. This is the complete guide we use ourselves at Bling Art.
What you need
- A pack of Bling Art press-on nails (24 nails per set, comes with glue and prep kit)
- Nail file (included in every set)
- Cuticle pusher (optional but recommended)
- Rubbing alcohol or nail prep wipes
- 10 minutes of uninterrupted time
Step 1 — Prep your natural nails
The #1 reason press-on nails fall off early is poor prep. Don’t skip this step.
- File your natural nails short and even. The shorter, the better the bond.
- Gently push back your cuticles with a cuticle pusher or orange stick.
- Buff the surface of each natural nail lightly. You’re not trying to remove anything — just take the shine off so the glue has something to grip.
- Wipe each nail with rubbing alcohol. This removes all the oils your skin naturally leaves behind. Skipping this step is the single biggest cause of nails lifting at the edges.
Step 2 — Size each nail before you glue anything
This is the step most people get wrong. Match every press-on nail to the correct finger before applying any glue.
Lay out all 12 sizes in order. Hold each one against the nail it’s going on. The press-on should cover the entire natural nail without overhanging at the sides. If you’re between sizes, pick the smaller one and file the edges to fit — never the larger.
Step 3 — Apply the glue
Apply a thin layer of nail glue to two surfaces:
- A small drop in the centre of your natural nail (don’t flood it)
- A thin coat across the back of the press-on nail
Wait 5 seconds for the glue to become tacky. This is what gives you a stronger bond than applying immediately.
Step 4 — Press and hold for 15 seconds
Place the press-on nail starting at the cuticle line, then roll it down toward the tip. Press firmly for a full 15 seconds. Count it out — don’t rush.
Repeat for all 10 fingers.
Step 5 — Seal the edges (this is the secret)
This is the step nobody tells you about. Sealing the edges is what makes Bling Art nails last 7 days instead of 3.
Take a toothpick or the tip of a cuticle stick. Run a tiny bead of glue around the cuticle line of each press-on and across the very tip. This creates a watertight seal that stops lifting and chipping.
Step 6 — Wait 30 minutes before water
The glue needs 30 minutes to fully cure. No hand-washing, no showers, no dishes during this window. After 30 minutes, you’re good to go.
How to remove press-on nails without damaging your natural nails
Never pull, pry, or peel them off. That damages your natural nail bed and can take weeks to recover from.
- Fill a bowl with warm soapy water and add a few drops of oil (any oil).
- Soak your hands for 10-15 minutes.
- The press-on nails will lift off naturally with gentle pressure.
- If a nail is stubborn, soak it for another 5 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How long should Bling Art press-on nails last?
7 days with proper application. Some customers report 10+ days. The biggest variable is the prep step — if you skip the alcohol wipe, expect 3-4 days max.
Can I shower with press-on nails on?
Yes, after the first 30 minutes. The gel finish and ABS plastic are fully water-resistant. Avoid prolonged hot water exposure (long baths) which can soften the adhesive over time.
What if a nail lifts at the edge?
You can re-glue it. Lift the edge gently, add a tiny drop of glue underneath, press down for 15 seconds. Don’t wait for it to fall off completely.
Can I reuse Bling Art press-on nails?
Yes, with care. After removal, file off any residual glue from the back, store flat in a clean container. Most customers get 2-3 wears per set.
Are press-on nails bad for your natural nails?
No — when applied and removed correctly. The damage happens when people peel them off or use cheap glue that pulls layers off the natural nail. Bling Art’s included glue is safe, and our removal method protects your nails.
What size press-on nails should I order?
You don’t need to worry. Every Bling Art set includes all 12 sizes (2 of each size, 24 total). One pack fits every hand.
